POAWPKL-MILO Cross Country 2011
Back shirt design |
Muddy, dirty, long, treacherous, cardio-killer, lung incapacitating, head throbbing, limbs aching…okay okay that’s enough. Those are just some of the apt adjectives to describe the recent cross country last Sunday. Hitherto, this cross country and 3rd running event that I participated in was the toughest, craziest, and awesome-st.
Finally, a decent t-shirt design. Thumbs up! |
Besides the usual road-curb combination in any run, this cross country run had a deadly combo of road, off-road, jungle, and park. The total distance of the run? 8.2 km, the longest distance in my record. But according to a friend a befriended in the run, he’s Nike sports band registered a 10km plus minus distance. I clocked in at 1 hour 4 minutes, also the longest time so far. Hmm, I actually thought I could finish in less than an hour, but oh well. Maybe it was due to my not running for some time and so having less stamina. So I didn’t bag any medal for this run, perhaps better luck next time. As usual, a certificate was given.
The usual cert. |
Less than 8 minutes into the run, I was to stunned to see a jungle trail. It was kinda like a jungle trekking experience. There was nobody to blame but me for not studying the route beforehand. Perhaps I could’ve been more prepared, but surprises are always fun too aren’t they? This jungle trail greatly slowed down the runners. The muddied and bogged plus sometimes dangerous terrain of the jungle wasn’t doing any good to us runners. It was rather like an obstacle course for the gritty runners. Thankfully nobody got hurt or injured, as far as I’m concern.
The first to finish in my category completed the route in 38 minutes plus. What an achievement! Averagely, the time of the top runners’ are approximately 40 minutes. Runners from all over Malaysia can be seen, some with their luggage. I guess the aficionados don’t mind traveling all the way to KL just to participate in the run. These people must be really passionate about running.
The run was so tiring that I had hope each bend I took was the last bend and the finishing line would come into sight. Unfortunately, with every stride, the finishing line seemed more distant than ever, no thanks to the off road terrain, which was really a pain in the arse and leg. There were some really steep hills and slopes in stored for us runners. Some slopes were acutely angled more than 45 degrees. And there was even a flight of stairs we have to go through, which saw most runners just walking their way up.
These were obstacles that tested my limits. Somehow I managed to summon up my all to finish the run. Oh yeah! It was a great feeling of achievement.
I also met some nice and friendly people from this run. They are siblings who share the same passion – running.
Me and my new friends |
Remember that 1 Malaysianist veteran from the previous runs. I’d mentioned about her before. Guess what? She participated in the run too, not a bit surprising. She has been religiously participating in all these runs. I personally have seen her in all the runs I took part in. Inspiring, really.

Picture with The Veteran |
The female veteran runner dominated the POAWPKL-MILO cross country run. With the smaller than last time’s self made, hand-made banner, she conquered the jungle trek and off-road terrain, finishing the run with her banner without a dirty spot.
I also chatted with her a bit and found that she’s quite chatty. Apparently she started running quite late. She was definitely the oldest runner, but age is definitely not a factor for her.
Thanks for spreading inspiration and enthusiasm to all runners, dear auntie. Hope to see you and my new friends in the upcoming runs. Pssst, I heard that many runs are lined up after Chinese New Year. Gotta start building up my stamina.

Dalai Lama Personality Test Part 4
Had fun so far with the previous parts (part 1, part 2, part 3) of the test? Hope you did. Now comes the last part of this personality test.
The Dalai Lama is a very respected person. Surely you’ve heard of him, but who really is The Dalai Lama whom people respect and adore so much?
As a show of respect, when mentioning his name, it should be His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama Of Tibet. Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism. Before the establishment of the Chinese communist rule, the Dalai Lama was also the spiritual and temporal ruler of Tibet.
According to Wikipedia, “The Dalai Lama is a lineage of religious officials of the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism.” The world “Dalai” Далай means ocean while “Blama”(silent b) བླ་མ means chief. He is also believed to be the incarnation of Avalokitesvara.
For matters relating to all things Dalai Lama, you can go to the official website at www.dalailama.com.
Without further more ado, let’s proceed to the last part of the personality test. Ready for the finale? Don’t be too disappointed. It’s the shortest section of all.

Well, kinda anti-climatic isn’t it?
Technically, this isn’t the real part of the test. So you may choose to ignore this part. That’s for all for this personality test.

The Dalai Lama Personality Test Part 1
Recently, one of my lecturer’s gave my class a series of personality test – The Dalai Lama Personality Test.
To do this, you have to be totally honest with yourself. Try to be mindful of the first answer that comes to your mind when you see the questions below.
The Dalai Lama Personality Test
The first part goes like this…
1. Rank the following 5 animals according to your preference:
- Cow
- Tiger
- Sheep
- Horse
- Pig
To complete the test, make the invisible visible. Scroll down to decipher this test.

The 1st question is related to the priorities in your life:
cow = career
tiger = pride
sheep = family
horse = love
pig = money
That’s all for part 1. Stay tuned for the following parts.
Although this is quite a good test, I doubt the accuracy. I mean, I chose cow as my first priority. Because I didn’t know which animal to choose, I ranked them according to the first letter, from A to Z. But if you did it the way it was suppose to be done, the results should amaze you.

Bloody Day
The victims of blood are actually heroes of the day. And instead of bloodshed because of hatred, it happened for the sake of love. Many lives I believe would be saved thanks to those who sacrificed their blood.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, what this was was a blood donation drive. And for the first time ever, I donated my blood. Hooray to me.
Initially, I thought that because I’m underweight and also quite scraggly, I cannot donate blood, but I was wrong. One just has to weigh over 45 kg to be able to participate in this bloody shebang.
You may wonder why I decided to donate my blood. Why donate blood in the first place? Well, why not? Firstly, it was for a new and fresh experience. Doing something I never done before had a certain kick to it. Ultimately, the purpose of doing it was a benevolent one – saving lives. I cannot say for sure that my blood I donated will be a life saver to somebody who’s suffering out there, but at least I gave that hope. Knowing that you’ll probably save someone’s life is a good feeling, truly.
They say that giving is receiving. Who knows when the day comes that we are the ones who are at the receiving end of the blood donation and desperately need blood to continue to live. Hopefully, if such a day does arrives, there would be sufficient and compatible blood for us all.

Humble bubble
goes the echoed sound of flying feathers,
enters a peacock, with beautiful feathers on its back,
giving an aura of air in its saunters.
Another friend of peacock’s enters this great court,
a court not for judgment, a court not for courting,
nay, not even it is for the good of God,
aye, it is the court for playing.
Unlike the peacock who walks with it’s nose held high,
It’s friend enters head a little down,
perhaps it feels inferior to the peacock guy,
already at the court are two playing clowns.
Together the four play along,
feathers are flying, jumping and bouncing,
from one side comes a lot of laughing,
from another side is everything but guffawing.
Cool and with pride the peacock struts it’s stuff,
it's as though the world spins around it’s feathers,
but the clowns are not to be feather-cuffed,
and at the end of one cycle the clowns emerge winners.
Of course there are many rounds,
winning or losing is part of the game,
once, the peacock’s pride is hit to the ground,
a hand is offered, without receiving it’s aim.
At the end, everything is finished,
the peacock leaves, without a bye, sound or grumble,
for sure it feels a bit anguished,
but that’s what you’ll get if bursts the humble bubble.
Live curious
Thanks to my lecturer who shared this with me. It reminds me to always be open and alert to everything that’s happening around me.
Curiosity. That’s a spark in all of us. We are naturally curious beings. How, why, who, and when are words that we always use in our daily conversations.
But many people nowadays, including myself, forget to be curious. We are often caught up in our worldly duties, obligations, and conflicts that a solid barrier hems in our thoughts and minds, obstructing the spark from sparkling.
How could one be curious again?
If you are, you breath. If you breath, you talk. If you talk, you ask. If you ask, you think. If you think, you search. If you search, you experience. If you experience, you learn. If you learn, you grow. If you grow, you wish. If you wish, you find. And if you find…you doubt. If you doubt, you question. If you question, you understand. If you understand, you know. If you know, you want to know more. If you want to know more…you’re alive.
We should be mindful of what we’re doing, be mindful that we’re alive. Live in the moment, not the past or the future. Be present. Notice your surroundings; if you have, you’ll start to question things. From there, it feeds on, until we’ll want to learn more. That’s curiosity, the essence of learning.
I want to be more curious. I hope you do too.
“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.” – Albert Einstein.

The Tale of a Pussy
When was the last time you chase your own tail? You probably didn’t cause you didn’t have one to chase. But say if we humans have a tail, there will come a day when we would suddenly discover this weird extension of the body although it had been there since our birth.

Of fraud and Scam
Beware people. Fraud emails are circulating like mad cow disease in a cow farm, and I’m sure at one point or another you’ve receive at least one fraud email saying that you won the lottery and what not.
Lately, my email inbox detected an up rise of fraud activity. Some were allegedly from banks in the UK while some others were alleged lottery winnings.

walking on water, pouring of water
I was quite busy adapting back to hostel life for the past few days, which explains the non-presence of posts. Plus, the university applications are a real headache, especially the common applications. The common app is suppose to ease students’ application process, but from my observation and personal experience, that is not a case. It simply ain’t helping, instead it creates the need for more help. Going to the US to further studies requires many skills. It’s like going through an obstacle courses. I think I should not digress further, perhaps I’ll dedicate 1 whole post for this topic.
Water seems to be the theme of the week. I had been literally walking on water for the first two days in my hostel. The reason, the clogged toilet. Nope, it wasn’t the toilet bowl that was clogged, thankfully, but the floor of the toilet. And yes, it’s a 2 in 1 thing, the toilet bowl and the shower are in the same bathroom, if you’re wondering.
On my second day back in my hostel, after I washed off the shampoo off my head and was getting ready for the soap, I noticed clouds of foam surrounding the toilet bowl. It was quite beautiful, like cumulonimbus cloud.
Alas, the toilet was clogged. Nothing seemed to be flowing into that “hole” anymore. So a mini swimming pool was form. Panic stricken, I quickly showered the remaining soap on my body. If it weren’t for the raised entrance to the bathroom, the water could have flooded my “living room”. On top of that, the shower head also went missing, presumably stolen by some low lives which I don’t want to mention. I don’t really know who took it away but I reckon it wasn’t for a good purpose.

New Year, New Day
New Year 2011! |
Alright, hooray new year. Good news and bad. Yes there are bad news too. It also means that you’re 1 year older. How’s that?
While trying to search a suitable image to put on my post for the new year, I image googled “new year”. I half expected to see 2011 or new year celebrations. Guess what was the first picture Google gave me?
Google search "new year" result |
Yeah, this is the picture. Oh my god, how did this ranked first in Google image search? Hmm, so what does this say about the people nowadays? I think most of you would be looking somewhere else instead of the “Happy new year” painted somewhere in the pic.
