The death of a fan…

Do you have a fan?

rip fan

A sad thing happened recently. A fan met her demise. A ardent fan she was, really. She was not very tall, only roughly 160 cm in height, but she always stood proudly.

She had been my fan, and my family’s fan. It was her head that got messed up. I loved how she would spin, and provide me with cool air.

If you haven’t guess it already, it’s a fan. An object. Immovable. Non-living thing. It has nothing to do with any sports fan. It’s just a fan, a standing fan.

Beheading of the fan.

Ahh, what massacre! Her head contained the malfunction motor.

Having served my family for almost 2 decades, her time has come to an end. Sad smileWhat’s left of her had to be cut into pieces so that she could fit nicely in the dead-bag (the ones that are used to cover a corpse). She is now a corpse, and rightly so.

The "brain" of the fan

This is her dissected brain. It was the core of her intelligence. It is this that allowed her to respond to my pushing of her buttons, to turn on and off, and to respond with a faster or slower spin of her head.

With her past presence in the back room and recent presence in the computer room came a false sensation of cool air that made those rooms bearable and breathable.

It is one of those special antiques that are imbued with memories. An object that’s always taken for granted. Until we lose it, we never did appreciate it, except when we felt hot.

In each family, each household, each room, there is a fan; It comes in various positions – standing, hanging, etc. What a beautiful creation this is! Do appreciate it. I bet there’s one right over you right now.

So, do you have a fan?

Happy New Double-1-Malaysia Year!
